I can not go into details, but I am 100% sure the FTC is walking around the show. Wonder if they are targeting those with a major presence at the show.

I had an idea for a spyware buster program, basically sends so many fake requests that their server crashes. But you need alot of bandwidth to actually take them down.

They are doing more than just walking around. Looks like they are cracking down on spam, not spyware, yet.

Spam? There were no spammers at the show. All of them couldn't afford the tickets from China and India.

Good... they can take care of the spammers. Hopefully they'll start cracking down on the spyware too.

They actually served a company for "spamming" as the FTC defines it. They say you can only send emails to someone who has opted-in to your site. So if you opt-in to my site I cant send emails promoting your site. Something like that. Maybe someone else here knows a little bit more about what happened.

But, to recap, Spamming is defined by the FTC as sending your opt-in list to someone elses program.

My understanding was that at least two companies got served, one of whom might also have Microsoft on their asses before they know it, if they don't already.

Conventions are easy pickings for the law on criminals. Sought of like Cops when they told people with warrants they won tickets to Super Bowl. Just come down and claim your prize and out comes the big butterfly net. You're Busted...

It's my understanding that one of the companies they "served" is already closed and there were rumors about the other one several weeks ago. IOW, not new news.

Spam will never go away. It will just evolve into something less regulateable.
